RESEARCH ANALYST

From 2008 to 2013, there were 8,485 adult patients at Einstein who had three or more inpatient medical admissions (frequent patient). In total, this group accounted for 47,065 hospital admissions.

We wanted to take a closer look at these folks—who they are, their medical conditions, and patterns among them—and find ways to use this data to reduce frequent visits, control costs and understand how to best care for our patients.

Thanks to a grant from the Albert Einstein Society, we began collecting this data. Without the grant, this research project would not have existed. The grant provided the means for us to conduct this research at Einstein. It’s important to both our patients and the institution as we seek to best serve our community.

Together, donors and grantees like us are making a difference in the way we care for our patients.
